Environmental Social Governance (ESG)
ARCA is committed to meeting the evolving needs of our contractors, especially as more property owners seek contractors with responsible environmental policies.
ARCA members are committed to being responsive to the needs of their clients and as a result voted to actively pursue sustainable practices.
In 2023, ARCA took a significant step by purchasing 160 acres in northern Alberta and planting 166,000 trees. This forest is a cornerstone of our long-term commitment to environmental sustainability, and we pledge to keep it healthy and standing for the next 100 years. In addition to carbon capture our forest contributes to environmental preservation, biodiversity and ecological health. Our members have embraced this initiative wholeheartedly.
To ensure transparency, a professional forest management company will provide annual reports, which will be available to anyone interested in our efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Our trees will capture 3,600 tonnes of carbon per year. Over the lifetime of our forest, we will capture 360,000 tonnes of carbon.
ARCA also supports member contractors in building their own sustainability programs in several keyways:
- We assist members in calculating and reducing their carbon footprint over time.
- Our members have always maintained a truly diverse workforce, and we are now helping them showcase this diversity, reflecting all groups within society.
- ARCA ensures compliance with CSA SPE-116 guidelines, providing leadership and direction for not-for-profit associations.
Our members are excited to lead the skilled trades industry in this green initiative, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and diversity.
